Es tiempo de que tu controles tus medios de communicacion por medio de ver la verdad. <span style="font-size: large;">I wanted to make a post about the real struggle I have been having finding products in regular supermarkets that are sugar free. And I am not just talking about desserts and sweets. </span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">When I started this journey of trying to eat healthier and build healthier habits, I was purchasing products that I thought were healthy. Why did I think they were healthy? They had words on the front like WHOLE WHEAT, HEALTHY SOURCE OF VITAMIN X, HEALTHY CHOICE, NATURAL, HOMESTYLE, OLD FASHIONED. The problem that I have come to learn and accept is that the front of the product can say pretty much whatever it wants because our US laws are so lenient on what they consider "HEALTHY". All of the promises of the front of the product come to reality when you look at the back of the label and you find that it (and it could be ANY processed food aka anything a bag, can or box) contains added sugar. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I never realized the items I had grown up consuming, unless they were non-frozen vegetables or fruit, contained added sugar. My mother had her best intentions at heart when she read the front of the products and fed them to me. I learned these habits from her. I can't remember in which grade, but at some point in school they taught us to read food labels. It wasn't a long chapter because I don't remember if they taught us what we were supposed to consume. We were just told "This is a nutrition label, this is what it looks like." </span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">I remember when I was about 18 I went on a diet and started exercising. I remember reading the label on a can of Rockstar energy drink "Juiced" I was excited to see that it it only had 90 calories!! But then after a couple times of sitting there drinking it I realized (mine was a 24 oz can so the serving size was 3) that I didn't take into account the fact that it was actually more like 270 calories because the serving size made the entire label x3. </span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">Anyways, the point of that story is that was the first time I remember actually being alarmed by a nutrition label and how I could easily one could misread it. Or if you don't read English very well, a nutrition label would do you no good. In the case of my mother, she didn't read English for a couple years after arriving here.</span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;">Why is sugar so bad? Well, I didn't know it was that bad, or that the amounts added to our every day food were so high until I watched this youtube video. It literally changed my life and my shopping habits. </span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;">Most impacting to me about this short documentary is that it mentioned insulin resistance and I had that growing up. I was never told it was because I consumed too much sugar. Now that I know that, I will train my brain to always remember the negative effect sugar has had on my body. The urges and desires for sugary items is always there for me, and it seems that when you try and avoid items THEY ARE EVERYWHERE YOU LOOK. I know that as an adult if I can afford it, I can have it. I remind myself that my health is more important than what I want at that very second, and I step away. At the store, to tell you the truth, I look at the sugar amount and I feel disgusted that I ever put that crap in my mouth. I am hoping that will help me build good habits and good associations. </span></center>

<span style="font-size: large;">I remember watching "Super Size Me" and when the host learned about manipulation of triggering good feeling memories to bad food. He said, when I have a kid I'm going to slap him upside the head every time he sees a McDonalds. That's what I have to do with myself when presented with bad food options. I have to remember how I used to go on a roller coaster ride of emotions when eating. I have to remember I used to eat the food and feel great, then feel totally disgusted-sad-is-that-me feeling</span><span style="font-size: large;"> when I looked in the mirror.</span></center>

<span style="font-size: large;">I googled "How much sugar should we consume each day" and found that the USDA finds that we should only ingest 22g for women and 36g for men of sugar per day. (12g for children) I try and limit my added sugar intake even more, I don't purchase items if they contain more than 2-4g of sugar per serving and the serving better be quite large. Any sugar in fruits is good for you, I don't worry or try to limit my intake of fruits. </span></center>

<span style="font-size: large;">I have committed to a lifestyle that is high in fiber and low in processed sugar. It has been working for me, and I don't think I will go back. I can't. I have lost 25 lbs, dropped 6 pant sizes and I refuse to look back. I refuse to be that sad person that didn't want to be seen by the world. Not when I can change that with something as simple as self control and will power. </span></center>

<span style="font-size: large;">Queria escribir sobre el problem real que es comprar productos en la tiendas regulares que son hechas sin azucar. Y no nadamas estoy hablando sobre postres y cosas dulces.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">Quando empeze este viaje de comer saludable y construir habitos mas saludables, estaba comprando productos que yo pensaba que eran saludables. Por que pensaba que eran saludables? Por que tenian palabras enfrente como: "GRANO ENTERO, ADICIONADO CON X VITAMINAS, NATURAL, ESTILO DE CASA" El problema que e tenedido que aceptar es que lo que dice enfrente del producto puede decir lo que quiera la compania por que las leyes del US son sin lacra de su definicion de "saludable". Todas las promesas que dicen los productos se vienen a la realidad cuando la volteas a tras y ves que le an añadido azucar. El producto de que me refiero es todo lo que esta en la tienda en bolsa, caja o lata. </span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">Yo nunca realize que los productos que yo creci consumiendo, si no fueron vegetales o frutas frescas, tenian azucar añadida. Mi mama tenia las mejores intenciones cuando ella leyo lo que estaba en frente del producto y lo compro y me lo dio. Yo aprendi estos habitos de ella. Yo no me acuerdo en que grado fue, pero nos enseñaron com leer la seccion de nutricion de productos. Nadamas me acuerdo que nos dijieron "Esto es la seccion de nutricion, asi se ve"</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">Me acuerdo cuando tenia 18 a</span><span style="font-size: large;">ños me puse a dieta y empeze a hacer ejercicio. Acuerdo leyendo la lata del jugo de energia Rockstar "Juice". Estaba tan feliz cuando vi que solo tenia 90 calorias!! Pero despues de tomarmela unas cuantas vezes realize que no habia tenido en cuenta es que el tama</span><span style="font-size: large;">ño de la porcion era 3, so no era 90 calorias, era 270 porque toda la seccion de nutricion entonces se mutiplica por 3. </span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">De todos modos, el punto de la historia es que esa fue la primera vez que me acuerdo alarmarme por una seccion de nutricion y lo que facil era leerla mal. Y es mas, si no sabes ingles muy bien- la seccion de nutricion no te ayuda. En el caso de mi mama ella no podia leer ingles por los primeros a</span><span style="font-size: large;">ños de haber llegado.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">Lo mas impactante para mi que de el documentario original en ingles que vi fue que directamente mencionaron que el consume de azucar cause lo que e llama resistencia a la insulina. Eso me dijieron que tenia cuando era niña, pero no me acuerdo que el doctor me alla dicho que era por que consumia demasiada azucar. </span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;">Ahora me tengo que entrenar a mi cerebro que siempre recordar el effecto negativo que tuvo la azucar en mi cuerpo. Los deseos por los productos con azucar todavia me afectan y parece que cuando quieres evitar algo, ESTA POR DONDE QUIERA QUE MIRAS. Yo se que como adulta si lo puedo comprar, lo puedo comer. Me tengo que acordar que mi salud es mas importante de lo que quiero en ese segundo, y me atrazo. En la tienda, para decirte la verdad, miro la seccion de nutricion, miro cuanta azucar tiene y me siento mal del estomago nadamas pensando que antes me metia eso a la boca. El dijo que le iva a pegar a su hijo en la cabeza cuando viera un McDonalds. Eso es lo que yo tengo que hacer cuando me presentan con comida mala. Tengo que acordarme como era antes, la montaña rusa de emociones cuando comia. Me acuerdo que comia y me sentia fantastica, hasta que me veia en el espejo y me sentia disgustada y sorprendida a lo gorda que me veia.</span></center>

<span style="font-size: large;">Me fije en Google, "cuanta azucar debo consumir cada dia" y encontre que la USDA dice que las mujeres deberian de consumir 22gramos de azucar, los hombres 36 gramos y los niños 12 gramos. Yo trato de limitar la aun mas. No compro productos si tienen mas de 2-4 grams de azucar por porcion, y esa porcion tiene que ser grande. Todas las frutas son buenas para ti, no trato de limitar la fruta que como.</span></center>

<span style="font-size: large;">So usually after I cook up half a pound of ground turkey in spaghetti sauce and I save the other half make turkey burgers</span><span style="font-size: large;"> </span><span style="font-size: large;">(which I seriously just noticed that the image says "chicken" LOL but the recipe worked with turkey)! The recipe calls for 1 pound of meat for 4-5 patties but I only cook for me and my hubby so half a pound is perfect. This meal is part of my rotation and is perfect to eat the same meat twice in a row without it feeling like it is the same meal. </span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">I hope you guy try this recipe out, it is awesome. I add more veggies than the original recipe calls for, I add carrots, celery and shiitake mushrooms. Oh and I use kale instead of lettuce! And I do not add ketchup as I have not had time to make my own and the store bought ones have too much added sugar. I do love me some mustard and cheese tho!</span><br />

(Apenas me di cuenta que la receta original decia que era de pollo, pero sirve con pavo) La receta requiere una libra de carne, pero yo solo cocino para yo y mi esposo, so media libra es perfecto para nosotros. Just buy a packet from the grocery shop and follow the directions on the bag. Rice is good next to chicken, fish, beans, and eggs.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">2 1/2 cups of water</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">2 tbs of olive oil</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">2 med tomatoes</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">2 garlic cloves</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">1/4 of an onion</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">1 (half if possible) cube of low sodium chicken bouillon</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-size: large;">Directions:</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Blend tomatoes, garlic, onion and 1/2 cup of water. After blending if it is too chunky add more water. </span><span style="font-size: large;">In a skillet with a lid (mine doesn't have a lid so I do it in a pot) </span><span style="font-size: large;">Add the olive oil. Once the oil is hot, toss in the rice and move it around until the rice is a darker brown color, but not burnt black. Once rice is toasted, add rest of water, tomato blend and chicken bouillon to the pot. Let the rice soak up the water, should take about 30-45 mins.</span><br />

I'm more used to pinto beans, but my momma said to eat black beans, so here I am! <span style="font-size: large;">1/4 of an onion</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">2 cloves of garlic</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">In a pot on medium heat add all ingredients to the pot and then use enuff water to cover the beans by 1 1/2 inches. After this, you pretty much just wait like 2 hours and stir them every half an hour or so and check on their tenderness. They are finished once they are soft enuff to chew. You might have to add more water, you will know when you check and it has all evaporated. Black beans are not like rice, you do not want to cook out all the water. So you will have some bean juice (LOL) left over, you can either toss it out and have your beans whole, or do what my mom always did and throw all the beans and juice in the blender. If you blend them it is easier to spread on tortillas............add cheese and spinach and you got a quesadilla!</span><br />

Even with that said, I try and limit my pasta intake to twice a week (because you know when you make it you always make TOO much..... so the second time is the day after) I don't really find that there is a taste difference between whole wheat/brown rice and regular pasta. The only diff is after I put the pasta in the boiling water the whole wheat/brown rice pasta tends to fall and fold into the water a lot faster, which is nice.</span><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><br />

Talvez tengas que agregar mas agua, sabras cuando notes que toda la agua se a evaporado. Los frijoles no son como el arroz, no quieres que se le evaporize el agua. So despues de cocinarlos vaz a tener frijoles con jugo, puedes tirar el jugo si quieres y comerlos enteros. Mi mama siempre hechaba el jugo y los frijoles a la licuadora, es mas facil esparcir en una tortilla.........agregale queso y espinacas y tienes una quesadilla!</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">Pasta de harina integral o de arroz integral tiene mas fibra y nutrientes que la pasta regular. Aun asi trato de solo comerla dos veces a la semana (por que la primera vez que siempre hago demasiado, so lo como al dia siguiente tambien) No encontre ninguna diferencia en sabor entre estas pastas y las de harina blanca. La unica diferiencia que yo note es que cuando pongo la pasta en la agua herviente no toma tanto tiempo para que seponga suave y se dobla rapidamente, lo qual es bueno.</span><br />

This recipe calls for only basil and spinach but I also add kale and recently I started putting in an avocado also. I have also added lo fat yogurt in replacement of some of the oil used and it turned out well. This pesto sauce is good over chicken, pasta, fish or even rice! Best thing is it is a very easy to make, toss all the ingredients in a blender or food processor and then serve! Ooooo how my husband and I love pesto now! I cook this batch up like the very excited lady does on this video and I kinda add 20% more of everything and freeze half of the pot! I will admit that I make my version slightly unhealthier by frying up half a packet of bacon first.Then I remove the bacon and let it sit to the side, I wrap it up in paper towels and put it in the fridge. I use the bacon grease and oil to fry up the leeks. I just really love crunchy bacon on top of this soup! But I compensate by adding even more vegetables to this soup, while it is still boiling I add spinach, kale, avocados and broccoli. </span></center>

I have found other ways to substitute it for healthy desserts with healthy ingredients and not heavy on the sweetner. I add some a bit of vanilla extract, and I use coconut palm sugar. This method of blending frozen fruits in the food processor can be switched up! You can try frozen mangos, peaches, I've even tried persimmons and added lime and salt! The key is to not add too much sugar. I have to try and adjust my palate to taste natural sugars, it's a hard adjustment but atleast this way I don't feel totall deprived of a dessert like treat.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">Puedes seguir con añadir o subsitituir cualquier tipo de vegetal que te guste cuando te guste. Hazla a tu manera, es tu sopa. Pero acuerdate de solo añadir lo que es bajo en sodio.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">Primero con un poco de aceite de olivo en una olla onda caliente heche el pollo para cosinarlo hasta que el cambie el color a cafe claro. No se preocupe si no se cosino entero. Despues saque el pollo y pongalo al lado.</span><br />

Hechele los cubos de caldo de pollo. Subale el fuego y hechele tambien el pollo medio cocinado. Antes de que llegue a hervir bajele el fuego a mediano y pongale la tapa a la olla. Dejelo cocinando por 30 minutos, moviendola cada 10 minutos. Si usted tiene problemas digestionando las verduras dejelo cocinar por 1 hora. <span style="font-size: large;">The easiest way I have found to assemble my smoothie is to make what I call a "compost." Which just means I wait until apples, pears (forgot to list them above), carrots, celery, cabbage and beets are sale and then I will buy them by the bulk, puree them and then freeze them in bags. I keep a medium sized plastic container and include apples, pears, celery, cabbage, beet and carrot purees all together. I put in 4 spoonfuls of this per smoothie each morning. This "compost" container usually lasts me about a week in the fridge.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">It was my mothers recommendation that I add 2 tablespoons of ground flax seeds per cup to my smoothies. She OMG loves flax seeds. Flax seeds are a good source of protein and it will help your digestive system as well as making you feel fuller. There are other protein powders that you could use, but I prefer the more natural route than chemical fillers and ingredients I cannot pronounce. I purchase them at my local grocery store and then ground them myself in my smoothie blender. </span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">Again, I have to hide the vegetables from myself and my husband. Essentially this is a green smoothie. But if I gave my husband a green smoothie, he would freak out. So the berries in addition to adding antioxidants and cancer fighting abilities add a purple hue that tells my hubby its going to be delicious! I recently added beets to our smoothies, making the smoothie look even more purple! Beets help purify your blood and are good for your liver!</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">La manera mas facil que yo encontre para ensamblar mi licuados es hacer lo que yo llamo un "compost" Esto significa que espero que las manzanas, peras (se me olvido ponerlas en la foto), apio, repollo, zanahorias y betabel esten en especial. Cuando las compro por mayoreo lo meto en el processador de comida y hago pure, lo meto en bolsas y lo meto en la congelador. En un contenido mediano de plastico hecho partes iguales de pure de manzanas, peras, apio, repollo y betabel y lo revuelto. Por cada vaso de licuado le hecho 4 cucharadas de este "compost" cada mañana. Este contenido me dura una semana. </span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">Por la recomendacion de mi mama le hecho 2 cucharadas de linasa molida por cada vaso de licuado. O como le gusta la linasa a mi mama. Linasa es una buena fuente de proteina, te ayudara com tu sistema de digestion y tambien te va hacer sentir mas lleno. Ay otras fuentes de proteina pero yo prefiero una fuente natural a una alternativa llena de quimicos y ingredientes que yo no puedo pronunciar. Compre una bolsa de semilla de linasa y lo moli en mi licuadora o procesador de comida.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">Otra vez dire que tengo que esconder los vegetales de mi misma y mi esposo. Esencialmente este licuado es de lo que llaman "licuado verde" pero si lo ve asi mi esposo no se lo toma. Le hecho arandanos y fresas por que tienen propiedades antioxidantes y la habilidad de peliar contra el cancer y tambien porque le dan un color morado al licuado que le dicen a mi esposo que va saber rico! Ulteriormente le empeze a hechar betabel y le da un color mas intenso de morado! El betabel es purificador de sangre y es muy bueno para tu higado!</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">Hello anyone that wants to read this! This is my story and my weightloss journey. I was 160LBS, size 14, and finally sick of being fat. It took me a while to get there, but I was finally unhappy. I am not a doctor or anything, but some of my Facebook friends asked what my secret was when they saw my photo to the right. So I decided the best and easiest way for me to share what I've been eating and such. I will also be translating this for my family who speak Spanish. :) </span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;">So anyone who knows me knows that I don't cook. At least, that was true until a month and a half ago. It always seemed so time consuming, and it was faster to pick up fast food. When I lived with my mom, she cooked. I went about 7 years of being married without cooking anything more than eggs once in a while. With a diet of soda, fast food and sweets, I went from 120lbs at age 18 to 160lbs by age 26. A month and a half ago I was sick of all of it. Sick of not feeling in control and sick of feeling like everything I ate made me fatter. I was more sick of eating to make myself feel better about what I was eating. </span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;">But I know myself, I had gone on diets before. 1 week diets, 2 week diets, eat this only diets...... they worked and then I would go back to fast food and wouldn't you know it, the pounds came back. So I decided to start by changing my attitude and not call it a diet. I was very inspired by an episode of Good Eats called "Live and Let Diet" And very much inspired by his 4 lists. </span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;"> I'm not perfect, but I have been trying to follow his list to the best of my abilities. I admit both I and my husband are picky eaters. I don't know why but if I hide the vegetables from being plainly put on the plate, it's easier for us to gobble the meal up. We are also expanding our taste palate and eating things we would have not eaten a month and a half ago...... kale, spinach, broccoli and leeks, oh my! So I am not ready to fully embrace all on the list, but we are getting there! </span><br />

Pesaba 160lbs, mis pantalones eran medida 14, y finalmente estaba fastidiada con estar gorda. Me tomo un buen rato a llegar ayi pero finalmente esta infeliz. <span style="font-size: large;">Cualquier que me conosca sabe que yo no cocino. Al menos hace un mes y medio no cocinaba. Me parecia mucho trabajo y era mas facil comprar comida rapida. Cuando vivia com mi mama, ella cocinaba. Pase 7 años de estar casada sin cosinar nada mas que huevos de vez en cuando. Con una dieta de soda, comida rapida y postres, fui de 120 libras a edad 18 a 160 a edad 26. Haze un mes y medio finalmente esta fastidiada de no sentirme en control y esta enfadada de sentir que todo lo que comia me engordaba. Mas estaba enfadada de comer para sentir me mejor de lo que estaba comiendo.</span></div>

Dieta de una semana, dieta de dos semanas, dieta de solo comer una cosa........ sirvieron pero luego yo regrese a mi dieta de comida rapida y que sabras..... las libras se regresaron. Esta vez decidi empezar por cambiar mi actitud de no llamarle una dieta. Me inspiro un episodio del show Good Eats llamado "Live and Let Diet" Y me inspiro mas sus 4 listas.</span></div>

Pero voy a admitir que yo y mi esposo somos muy exigentes de lo que comimos. No se porque pero si nos escondo los vegetales y no se ven en el plato, es mas facil para que nosotros comamos la comida. Pero nuestro paladar ha crecido desde hace un mes y medio...... col rizada, espinaca, brocoli y puerros son algunos sabores nuevos que hemos descubierto.
